Legend’s Sports Pub & Grille has been just that – a legend – in Uniontown for the last 14 years. But it wasn’t until its current owner Don Boyer, who was manager at the sports bar at the time, bought the place back in 2010.
That’s when things started to really take off.
Way back then, Legends was known as a wing joint and a decent place to catch a game. But, Boyer saw the potential in making substantial upgrades to the menu. Most notably, he decided to make the menu’s focus to burgers.
The move toward burgers, along with some significant renovations and overall improved food quality, paid off.
“Since I bought it, our sales have doubled,” Boyer said. “Everyone associates a sports bar with frozen or prepared food. But everything we do here is fresh. All of our sauces and dressings are homemade.
Legend’s burger menu offers up everything from a classic half-pound Bulldog Burger to the distinctive Breakfast Burger (topped with bacon, eggs and cheese).
But the biggest seller, according to Boyer, is the Buffalo Dip Burger.
This half-pound burger is seared with Legend’s signature hot sauce and topped with homemade buffalo chicken dip and a cool slice of provolone.
Sound tasty? You’re not alone. The burger won second place for “Best Creative Burger” at the 2013 National Hamburger Festival. No surprise, it’s Bulldog Burger earned first prize for “Best Traditional Burger” that same year.
This will be the third year Legend’s will participate in the National Hamburger Festival, a decision that has served them well.
“The festival is a great way for people to try us out, check our food and realize that, even if we’re a sports bar, we’ve still got great food,” Boyer said. “Overall, the festival has really helped to improve our business, to be honest.”
Boyer won’t give us any details on this year’s offerings, but has promised a variety of offerings – including the famed Buffalo Dip Burger.
That being said, Boyer says: “I recommend sampling a bunch of different burgers and finding a new restaurant that’s a favorite. There’s nowhere else you can to taste that many burgers in one place.”
For those looking to check out Legends (1840 Town Park Blvd., Uniontown, 44685), the large-scale sports bar features premier sports channels like the Big Ten Network, NFL Ticket and UFC Pay-Per-View events on more than 40 HD television and three HD big screen projectors. On any given night you might find yourself in the midst of a bike night with more than 600 bikes to an alfresco dance party on their 3,000-square-foot patio with tiki bar and outdoor stage.
