5.30.11 - Summer at Lock 3 featuring new events, old favorites

By Kathleen Folkerth - West Side Leader DOWNTOWN AKRON — Summer at Lock 3 Park officially begins May 27 as the season of music, food and festivals arrives. City of Akron officials announced the Downtown Akron park will host dozens of events, many of them free, during the next few months, including some new offerings such as an Irish Heritage Festival. Thanks to the support of stage sponsor Akron General Medical Center and funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the outdoor amphitheater will be buzzing with the sounds of music from tribute bands, national artists and international performers, according to Deputy Mayor David Lieberth. The National Hamburger Festival was featured in PARADE Magazine's May 22, 2011 article "Eat Your Way Across America --> 50 states, 50 fabulous food festivals." The feature included recipes from each of the food festivals in the magazine's Dash Recipe's Section. The National Hamburger Festival is the brainchild of Drew Cerza president/CEO of the Just Wing It Productions located in New York. As founder of the National Chicken Wing Festival, Cerza has a ten year history of successful event management across the country.

The Wingfest created in 2002 drew a record crowd of 69,000 people last year. National and local media outlets have strongly supported Just Wing It Productions organized festivals and events annually. Anticipated attendance for this first year Hamburger Festival is 30,000 – 40,000 people.
